Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources

Despite the many uncertainties related to the present pandemic situation the 72^nd edition of the EAAP (European Association of Animal Science, https://www.eaap2021.org/) congress was held between 30. August and 03. September 2021, this year in heart of Europe, in Davos, Switzerland. The city of Davos is known among others also by other high-profile meetings, such as the annual World Economic Forum. The main topic of the international scientific meeting was the “Scientific solutions to different demands on the livestock sector”. The different commissions within EAAP also this year proposed an attractive program with 74 scientific sessions, held in presence. It should be noted that the secretary for one of these commissions is prof. Ing. Radovan Kasarda, from the Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources, from Institute of Nutrition and Genomics. Similarly, as last year, poster sessions that included many interesting topics, were organized although only in virtual space. About 900 to 1500 scientist, policy makers and industry representatives from all agricultural fields attend this extraordinary event each year, who use this platform to share their knowledge, experience, and newest results relevant to animal science, husbandry, nutrition, breeding and genetics. It is a great possibility to meet face-to-face in an international setting, have a good time among colleagues and friends, exchange new ideas and grow professionally.

The Slovak University of Agriculture from the year 2021 takes over the coordination of the membership of Slovakia in the EAAP. Also this year, similarly to previous years, our institute was actively represented by Ing. Nina Moravčíková PhD, and Ing. Mária Mészárosováand prof. Ing. Radovan Kasarda PhD. Quality of outputs from the work of doctoral student Maria Mészárosová was awarded by theatre in the session 16. Recent advances in  omics technologies applied to small ruminants under topic: Genomic inbreeding trends and the impact of ongoing selection in the Slovak Original Valachian sheep of authors: M. Mészárosová, N. Moravčíková, M. Margetín, G. Mészáros and R. Kasarda.
