Congress of Apidology in Estonia
07.10.2024From September 16 to 19, the 10th Apidological Congress was held in Tallinn, Estonia. It was attended by approximately 300 participants from 38 countries involved in beekeeping research, education, consultancy as well as professional beekeepers. Slovak beekeeping research was represented by the employee of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources doc. Róbert Chlebo, who held a lecture, a poster and was also the co-author of 5 other pan-European beekeeping studies, which were also presented in the framework of this largest traditional meeting of European apiologists. The Eurbee beekeeping congress has been organized 10 times already, the previous host cities were Udine, Prague, Belfast, Ankara, Halle, Murcia, Cluj Napoca, Ghent and Belgrade, and our Faculty was represented at most of these meetings. The congress takes place at two-year intervals, alternating with the worldwide Apimondia beekeeping congress. The excellently organized congress took place in the unique Creative Hub meeting space with an industrial interior converted from a former power plant, where lectures and plenary sessions alternated simultaneously in 4 lecture halls for three days. EurBee has traditionally provided an opportunity to keep up with the latest trends in the field of beekeeping and sustainable pollination, establish and strengthen cooperation in pan-European initiatives, and provide space for the presentation of early stage researchers and doctoral students.
Since many of the participants were in Estonia for the first time, the organizers also arranged a visit to the Tallinn Old town and the Viru bogs near the capital.
