3Oth International Conference Genetic Days
16.09.2024Genetics Days is a unique conference covering all areas of genetics. Whether you are researching animals, plants or other organisms, you will always find something of interest in the various thematic sessions. The conference is organized as a biennial and always takes place in one of three countries: the Czech Republic, Slovakia or Poland. A tradition that started sixty years ago as a meeting of departments with the same name and focusing on different aspects of genetics and breeding biology has turned into a full-fledged regional genetics congress covering all areas of genetics. It is a meeting place for researchers and educators from partner universities with a focus on agriculture and life sciences. The opportunity to organise the 30th conference was given to colleagues from the University of Wroclaw, who chose Ksiaź Castle as the venue. Książ Castle is a popular tourist attraction, the largest castle in Silesia and the third largest in Poland. It hosts many conferences, art exhibitions and festivals and is a cornerstone of Polish culture. During the first day of the conference, on 10 September, a meeting of the Departments/Institutes of Genetics took place, where representatives of each of the participating universities presented the pedagogical and scientific research focus of their departments as well as the available instrumentation. The scientific programme of the conference on 11 and 12 September consisted of plenary lectures, sessions and poster presentations. Topics presented included genetics of humans, livestock, domestic animals, field crops and plants, both in terms of cytogenetics and molecular, quantitative, conservation evolutionary or landscape genetics. The conference was also associated with an exhibition of laboratory techniques and equipment. Representatives of our faculty from the Institute of Nutrition and Genomics actively participated in the meeting and presented the current research results of our projects. The next meeting will be held in Prague at the Czech University of Life Sciences in two years. In four years, Genetic Days will be organized by our department in Slovakia.
