From 6 to 8 May 2026, the 3rd International Scientific Conference of the COST Action “BeSafeBeeHoney” was held at the Agricultural University of Tirana in Albania. The project focuses on the safety and quality of bee products and the sustainability of the beekeeping sector. This COST Action was approved in 2023 and runs during the period 2023–2027. A total of 485 experts from 48 countries participate in the activities of six working groups (more information at besafebeehoney.eu), including two representatives from Slovakia.
The conference brought together experts in beekeeping, veterinary medicine, food science, environmental sciences, and biodiversity conservation from several European countries. Assoc. Prof. Ing. Róbert Chlebo, PhD., from the Institute of Animal Husbandry, delivered an invited plenary lecture entitled: “The Future of Honey Integrity: Quality, Health Value and Safety in the Global Market”.
During the conference, the latest research results were presented and opportunities for international cooperation in the fields of bee protection and the safety of bee products were discussed. Participation in the event also contributed to establishing new professional contacts and exchanging experiences among research institutions across Europe. Following the conference, discussions were held with representatives of Albanian beekeepers, accompanied by a visit to a professional apiary.
