Online Scientific Conference of PhD Students of FAFR, FBFS and FHLE SUA in Nitra

Scientific Conference of PhD Students at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, Slovakia was organised on the occasion of Science and Technology Week in the Slovak Republic. The Conference was held on November 11, 2020 online, under the auspices of doc. Ing. Peter Ondrišík, PhD. – dean of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources (FAFR), prof. Ing. Norbert Lukáč, PhD. – dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences (FBFS) and prof. Ing. Dušan Igaz, PhD. – dean of the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape engineering (FHLE).

Its main aim was to provide a platform for presentation of research findings, exchange of experiences and knowledge sharing. Presentations focused to basic and applied science results in following topics:

  • Animal production;
  • Applied and molecular biology;
  • Biotechnology;
  • Multifunctional agriculture, environment landscape architecture and rural development;
  • Nutrition;
  • Plant production;
  • Technology, quality and safety of raw materials and foodstuffs of animal origin;
  • Technology, quality and safety of raw materials and foodstuffs of plant origin.

 

Dean of the FAFR, Peter Ondrišík, in his speech during opening ceremony welcomed all participants and the other parties who joined to the live streaming; and praised the willingness of PhD students to publish their scientific results not only in the conference proceedings, but also in scientific journals.

A total of 82 participants were registered for the conference, of which 58 were from SUA in Nitra (25 PhD students from FAFR, 18 from FBFS, 14 from FHLE, 1 from FEM), 9 PhD students were registered from the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the other two came from the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. In addition to the Slovak PhD students, 13 foreign students from the following countries registered for the conference: Czech Republic (Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague; Charles University, Prague; Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic), Hungary (Szent István University, Budapest; University of Debrecen, Debrecen), Russia (Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow; Kaliningrad State Technical University, Kaliningrad), and Uzbekistan (Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Tashkent; Karakalpak State University, Nukus).

During the closing ceremony, Honourable Mention for the best research from the Dean of the FHLE Dušan Igaz received:

Presented papers were published in the form of an extended abstract in the Proceedings of Abstracts available on the conference website or in the form of scientific papers, which will be published in the Journal of Central European Agriculture, The Journal of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Food Sciences, Potravinárstvo Slovak Journal of Food Sciences, Archives of Ecotoxicology, Acta Horticulturae et Regiotecturae or Acta Fytotechnica et Zootechnica.

Committees hope, that this first online Conference provided a meeting place for creative discussion and new ideas for collaboration; and that the scientific programme has contributed to increasing our knowledge, improving our future work and building new friendships between PhD. students from different countries.
