On Friday, March 23^rd on the meeting at the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding the professor Nina Brutch from All-Russian Institute of Plants Genetic Resources (VIR) have presented the lecture “Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) genetic resources in VIR collection, orientated on different breeder’s demands, including selection of varieties for soils remediation from heavy metals pollution.” The audience got acquainted with the history of the creation of VIR genetic resources collection and principals of its replenishment and maintenance nowadays. The wide range of Linum usitatissimum L. different characters, important for different directions of the crop breeding was presented. Also the problem of heavy metals pollution and possible ways of environment remediation using plants – accumulators of heavy metals were discussed.
